Curriculum Information

The government released a revised National Curriculum from September 2014.

The curriculum is ‘what’ will be taught. The Government has slimmed these requirements down to enable schools to add areas they feel children need for their development. At St James we deliver the International Primary Curriculum as part of our curriculum provision which is closely matched to the NC requirements.

We will mix a rich cross curricular approach through the IPC to make learning fun, with discrete teaching of specialist subjects such as Mandarin, RE, Music and Physical Education.

Curriculum Newsletters for each year group give more information about what your child will be taught each term. This is in addition to the IPC Parent Newsletter we send home each term.

Here are our curriculum maps for 2016/2017:

Foundation Subjects

Here at St James CE Primary School Gorton we provide a creative curriculum based around the International Primary Curriculum (IPC)

With the new National Curriculum being introduced by the Government this year (2014-15) we have been working hard to refresh our school approach and provision for pupils. As part of this work we have decided to implement the IPC, a internationally recognised approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children.

Yearly Overview

The school delivers the International Primary Curriculum. The school fundamentally believes that children will be better equipped for life beyond school if they are more globally aware. As a school we define international mindedness as:

"To have an awareness of ourselves and others"

Great learning, great teaching and great fun…

The IPC is one of the fastest-growing curriculum choices in the world today, with over 1,900 schools in over 90 different countries. It is a comprehensive curriculum for 5-12 year olds, made up of over 100 exciting, engaging and globally relevant thematic units of learning, which are designed around a clear process of learning and with specific learning goals for subject, personal and international learning.
