Year 2 Curriculum

Mathematics is an integral part of the curriculum at St James. There is a focus on mastery in maths where children become secure in the key skills of arithmetic and reasoning.

Please refer to our maths curriculum overview page for further details.

At St James we follow the Literacy and Language scheme of work in English. This has an emphasis on children accessing a range of texts to read and understand as well as providing many opportunities to write for real purposes. Please refer to our English curriculum overview page for further details.

Guided Reading

Guided reading is small-group reading instruction designed to provide differentiated teaching that supports students in developing reading proficiency. The small group model allows children to be taught in a way that is intended to be more focused on their specific needs, accelerating their progress.
